Under the language of "reform", two decisions were advanced last week by the UK government: the decriminalization of do-it-yourself abortion up to birth; and the decision to not reinstate the requirement for in-person medical consultation before abortion pills are prescribed. Here's why I am angry, ashamed, and apprehensive.
The war between Iran and Israel/United States, can be framed as a pursuit of two very different end-times perspectives. One from Evangelical Christianity (USA), the other from Shiite Muslim theology (Iran). Both envision the return of a messiah figure to rule the world. Ukraine is becoming a laboratory of ethics for the global Church. We would do well to listen very carefully.
When we are impacted by the reality of war Christians need a strong theological foundation rooted in Scripture not doctrinal tradition that emerged from another context with questionable bias. Rather than choosing a side, we need to fix our eyes on Jesus and the ethics of the kingdom of God, because the future of the world does not ultimately depend on the success of empires.
